All The Pink Locket

With Mother’s Day coming up, I thought it would be fitting to have our Make It Monday series be a DIY project for Mom.  My mom is a retro DIY queen (which is where I get my DIY love from).  She’s been DIY’ing way before the term DIY even became mainstream.  For her, as a single mom she just did what she could on what her budget was back in the day.   One of the things my sister and I look forward to are the handmade cards that she gives on holidays and birthdays.  Today’s Make It Monday are steps to creating a beautiful and simple Mother’s Day Card for mom using remnants of scrapbook paper.

Mothers Day DIY Card 1 and 2

Step 1:  Gather all your tools.  I used the following:

– Several remnants of scrapbook paper

– Circle paper cutter

– Glue stick

– Scissors

– Metallic markers or Sharpies

– Clear tape

Step 2: Using the circle paper cutter, cut out a few circle shapes.

Step 3:  Next lay out all your shapes.  I cut a heart shape out using my Cricut, but feel free to get creative and cut other shapes.

Step 4 and 5: Next, take one of the scrapbook papers and using a ruler outline a rectangle shape with the dimension 3 1/2 wide by 10 inches long and cut out the rectangle.  Then fold in half and you’ll have  3 1/2 by 5 inches card.

Step 6: Then arrange the cut out shapes on the top of the card as you like.

Step 7: Glue cut out shapes in place on the front of the card.

Step 8:  Cut clear tape about 2-3 inches long and they snip the ends on a slant.

Step 9: Align clear tape on the front of your card in whichever direction or slant you like.

Step 10: Using the metallic markers I created circles that give a polka dot effect.

Step 11:  Take one of the larger cutout pieces and place in the inside of the card.  This is going to serve as the “personal message” section for your card.
